Technical Lab Assistant -Temp - Lovelace Roswell Regional Hospital

Summary of Job Duties:

Responsible for answering client inquiries with regard to specimen collection, pricing, test results and other questions not requiring a response from one of the technical personnel.  May collect and receive clinical specimens from patients and/or perform clerical computer, and basic technical laboratory functions. Adheres to policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure compliance and patient safety.

Essential Functions:

1. Consistently completes work within assigned time, organizing work during heavy workload situation to expedite patient results identifying in advance needs for assistance.

2. Successfully completes annual laboratory competency review and continuing education requirements and adheres to applicable JCAHO/CAP regulations.

3. Acts as an information source for hospital personnel with laboratory-related issues and willingly accepts special projects and assignments.

4. Assists with inventory management, ordering, stocking of supplies, and in the care and maintenance of laboratory work area and furnishings/equipment.

5.Performs accurate computer data entry; consistently verifies accuracy of data prior to release and assures proper handling, storage and maintenance of patient specimens and records.

6.Questions policies, laboratory processes, environmental conditions and/or situations that may put patients at risk and ensures the timely reporting of potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses.

7.Takes ownership of assignments; other duties as assigned or requested

8.Communicates and listens effectively with internal and external customers; effectively understands instructions and shares knowledge.

9.Cooperates and interacts with supervisors, peers, other departments, and all customer groups demonstrating our commitment to “service”.

Education: Minimum:  High School Diploma or Equivalent

Desired: Completion of an Accredited Lab assistant or Phlebotomy Program

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities: Ability to finish tasks in a timely manner; ability to maintain accuracy and consistency; ability to follow oral and written instructions and established procedures; communication and organization skills, maintain strict confidentiality.

Experience: 1 year of previous job-related experience in phlebotomy or processing

2 years of previous job-related experience in phlebotomy or processing preferred.
