Registered Nurse- VAD Coordinator, Cardiac Mechanical Support Program, New Mexico Heart Institute, Full-Time job, Days, Albuquerque, NM

  We are looking for a Registered Nurse to join our Cardiac Mechanical Support Team in Albuquerque, NM.
  This full-time job is located at New Mexico Heart Institute, the largest private cardiology practice in the state serving patients in 25 different New Mexican communities, with care delivered in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. NMHI practices state-of-the-art medicine by employing the latest cardiovascular imaging and fully integrated interventional, cardio-thoracic, and vascular surgical approaches. The Institute’s services, a number of which are conducted in conjunction with the Heart Hospital of New Mexico, located next door, address a full-range of preventive, diagnostic, treatment, surgical, and rehabilitation needs.

  Registered Nurse- VAD Coordinator Job Responsibilities:

  • Position would interface with VAD Coordinators, Physicians, APP, Perfusionist’s and patients in the use, monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting of the multiple mechanical circulatory support systems that are available at New Mexico Heart Institute and Lovelace Medical Center.
  • Coordination of inpatient care including intra-operative device management and participation in post-operative preparation for discharge.
  • Coordination of long term management and follow up care for outpatients post VAD implant.
  • Provide outreach to the tristate area post implant to train and educate referring staff, physicians, ED and EMS.
  • Document and maintain all device databases: problem tracking log, patient inventory, clinic inventory.
  • Documentation in patient medical records and database of all VAD equipment implanted and/or provided prior to discharge.
  • Primary resource to the New Mexico Heart Institute Cardiothoracic Surgeons on VAD technology.
  • The coordinator will use independent judgment in monitoring VAD patient needs, implementing standardized interventions as appropriate, and consulting with physicians as necessary.

Registered Nurse- VAD Coordinator Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
     
  • Valid NM Nursing license or NM compact license (within 90 days of hire)
     
  •   Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required
     
  •  Three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in the specific functional area is preferred
     
  • Obtain VAD Certification when available
     
  • Available for call as assigned 24/7 rotation
  •   Must possess strong organizational, time management, detail and communication skills; the ability to prioritize projects and work in a fast paced, frequently crisis driven environment
  • Basic computer skills required, including Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, and typing
  •   Bilingual preferred
